I ran accross this in an RSS feed I subscribe to over at 37Signals.com. It’s an ad for a company called LifeLock. The basic premise is that these guys do all the leg work for you. They place alerts on all your credit reports so that you know when anyone (including yourself) accesses that information. They also do several other things but if you’re interested, you can read more about it on their site. Of course, you could do all of this yourself but who has the time? And besides that the alerts need to be reapplied to your credit reports every 90 days to remain in effect. They take care of all that too. However, as you may have surmised, this is not a free service. It costs $110/person per year. But, in my opinion, that’s a pretty small price to pay for the peace of mind you get. I signed up! Oh, and you’ll also get copies of your credit reports from each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) as well as ChexSystems within 4-8 weeks of enrollment. You will stop receiving pre-approved credit offers and your junk mail load will be reduced dramatically. That alone sealed the deal for me. Of course the fact that their CEO has posted his SS# on the home page lends a little credibility as well.

Oh, and if you use the promotion code: “STONEWALL” you’ll save another $10!
