The countdown begins

5 days and counting until we leave for Moscow. As you might imagine we’re full of emotions. It’s a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation with a little anxiety and stress mixed in for good measure. We really don’t know exactly what to expect. We know that it’s about 15 hours in the air to get to Moscow where we’ll spend the first 2 days or so of our trip. Then it’s off to Chevashiya (Cheboksary) via a 12 hour train ride. 800 miles. Which sounds pretty interesting itself except that it’s all at night so we won’t be seeing much of the country that way either. I’m sure we’ll sleep as much as we can and do a lot of reading.
To be honest, the last few days (or weeks in my case personally) have been so hectic with both work and preparations for the trip that we really haven’t had much time to reflect on the situation. I woke up this morning for the first time realizing that in about a week we’re going to meet our son for the first time!
I’ve spent the last 7+ months trying to re-familiarize myself with the language in the hope of being able to make him more comfortable with his new family. Of course, this is our first trip so we’re only in country for about a week. Then we’ll come back home and wait for a court date to be set. We’re told that it could take a month or two. I can only imagine that those are going to be the longest 1-2 months or our lives. But I’m sure we’ll have more than enough to keep us occupied with more paperwork and preparation for his “home-coming”. Personally, I’m really looking forward to that part.
Ok. That pretty much brings us up to date for now. I’m going to do my best to chronicle the whole experience online. After all Dad’s a Geek, right?….
